What methods we used to conduct our investigation

Washington County, Oklahoma's Persaud Law Office conducted an investigation to discover what the most frequently litigated civil cases in the county are. Court records from January 2020 were examined. Since the COVID-19 pandemic reduced the number of lawsuits filed, we intended to evaluate court records prior to this time.

Only civil cases with a value of more than $10,000 were considered for inclusion in our study. Due to the prevalence of small claims court and unrepresented parties, we only looked at cases with a value of less than $10,000. There were no family or probate cases examined, as we have already discussed these topics in previous posts

We only looked at state court cases; we didn't look at federal court cases. Federal courts can only hear certain types of cases (for example, antitrust, admiralty, copyright, bankruptcy, and patent cases). These cases are common, but they cannot be heard in state courts, so they are not included in our database.

Forty civil cases involving sums greater than $10,000 were filed in Washington County in January 2020.
